9In most of the instances Agra is famous for TAJ MAHAL. That Agra is unparalleled as a travel destination is an established fact. Even Bill Clinton testified to as much when he declared the world was divided into two: those who have seen the Taj and those who have not! The Taj Mahal in Agra is one of the Seven Wonders of the modern world and has been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

Emperor Shah Jahan built this exquisite white marble mausoleum in Agra for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal was commissioned in 1631 and took 20,000 artisans, 22 years to complete. Today, the Taj Mahal in Agra has become the symbol of undying love and flawless beauty. No wonder it is also an excellent honeymoon destination – what better way to spend time with your beloved on your honeymoon than that at the Taj Mahal. Catch the Taj at different times of the day and even on moonlit nights.

Activity
In Agra, marvel at the intricate marble inlay work and the great symmetry in the design of the Taj Mahal. Precious stones like jade, crystal, turquoise, lapis lazuli, sapphire, jade, coral and diamonds were brought from far-flung places in Tibet, China, Sri Lanka, Persia and Afghanistan. It is believed that a fleet of 1000 elephants was used to transport the material. Get photographed at the famous bench in front of the Taj – it will make for a wonderful keepsake.

Accomodation Options
Luxury hotels in Agra with great views of the Taj Mahal are mostly located in the quieter Cantonment area and the new Tourist Complex. Most of the inexpensive budget accommodation is in Taj Ganj. There are also some camp sites and paying guest accommodations available
